Module and Industry Led Masterclasses
Our Event Management students always undertake a variety of practically focussed masterclasses every semester as part of the module Industry Experience Portfolio. These are designed to enhance understanding and engagement with key areas which are relevant to the industry. Many of these of course having direct interlink with Tourism and Hospitality Industries, as such the Events Team would like to open these up for anyone in the subject area to attend. These represent additional development opportunities for you as students.
You will find a blurb below regarding each of the masterclasses as well as the time and room number. If you would like to attend any of these, please use the form below to sign up, at least 48 hours before the masterclass so your name can be noted. You must register before attending to ensure your space.

How to PitchWhen: Monday 9th October, 1pm - 3pm
Where: N105 (Sir Ian Wood building) Overview Would you like to improve your presentation skills and learn how to pitch? Captivating and engaging people whether this is an interview panel, a client or organisations is a key skill to have. As well as of course, the many presentations you are assessed on across your studies – who wouldn’t want top marks?! Join this masterclass which is pitched at stage 3 event students but open to all. You will learn how to structure your presentation, how to engage and story tell and of course have the ability to practice too. |
Sustainability in Events Management When: Friday 13th October, 2pm - 4pm
Where: N107 (Sir Ian Wood building) Overview Understanding sustainability and its requirement in the events management industry is key to not only the industry but the connective tourism and hospitality industries too. In fact, many of our graduates often say events are a part of their remit in roles they have worked in! Whether you are looking to refresh your understanding or find out more, this is an integral masterclass to your future careers. This masterclass is pitched at stage 1 event management students but open to all. |
Event Finance & BudgetingWhen: Monday 30th October, 11am - 1pm
Where: One Tech Hub (Schoolhill Campus - City Centre) Overview Numbers, spreadsheets, and calculations make you scream?! There is no escaping finance in any role and having a basis of understanding and practice to aid the many complex systems you might face upon graduation. During this masterclass you will work hypothetically to manage finance and budgeting systems. This masterclass is best placed for students from stage 2 to stage 4 level! |
Event Industry TrendsWhen: Friday 3rd November, 2pm - 4pm
Where: N107 (Sir Ian Wood building) Overview Trends can take many different forms upward, downward, or sideways. However, what is important about trends is to understand what they are, the nature of them and how they effect the industry. This masterclass will explore the varying trends in all forms of the events industry inclusive of what we have left behind and what might be to come. This masterclass is pitched to stage 1 and stage 2 events students, but we would encourage students at any stage in their T.H.E journey to attend. |
Working with ClientsWhen: Thursday 16th November, 1pm - 3pm
Where: N107 (Sir Ian Wood building) Overview The T.H.E industry is a people industry with interaction at customer level key as well as many other key stakeholders. As such, understanding how to work with and manage clients is essential. This masterclass is best suited to students’ stage 2 and upward. |
Dealing with Client Briefs & Contracts When: Monday 20th November, 1pm - 3pm
Where: N105 (Sir Ian Wood building) Overview This masterclass is a great advancement opportunity for students who have undertaken the working with client’s masterclass but not a requirement. In this session, there will be practical explorations in how to deal with client briefs and understanding the contract process. This masterclass is pitched to stage 3 events management students, but is open to all! |
